Kabale University will host a virtual capacity building training under the NISHATI Project, an initiative designed to strengthen knowledge and skill development in renewable energy, water systems and eco-agriculture across universities in East Africa. The project supports local resilience to climate change by equipping academic and industry participants with practical expertise and innovative problem solving approaches relevant to green growth.
NISHATI, a Swahili word for Energy, is implemented across six African universities (two in Uganda, two in Tanzania, and two in Rwanda) with technical collaboration from Sapienza University of Rome as the lead coordinator. Other partners include the University of Cadiz in Spain, Studio Santi Srl and Hydrowatt of Italy.
The training will focus on renewable energy technologies and their integration within the agriculture value chain, addressing modern trends such as solar PV installations, storage systems, utility scale plant design and energy system optimization for agricultural productivity. With a skills centered approach, the programme aims to strengthen knowledge transfer, stimulate innovation, support green enterprise development and enhance professional competitiveness for participants drawn from academia, industry and technical fields.
Programme Topics Include:
- Introduction to Renewable Energy Technologies
- PV Installations and Global Energy Trends
- Utility Scale Solar PV Plants and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Solar PV Project Life Cycle and Integration
- Practical Case Study and Performance Assessment using PVsyst Software
Target Participants:
University staff, students, researchers and members of the public working in or interested in solar energy, green agricultural systems and climate responsive technologies.
