Launch of the Kabale University Business Incubation Center (KABBIC)

Kabale University will officially launch the Kabale University Business Incubation Center (KABBIC), a multidisciplinary innovation hub established to foster entrepreneurship, innovation and business development in the Kigezi region and beyond. The Center’s flagship programme, the Potato Value Chain, will position Kabale University as a regional leader in agribusiness transformation, technology-driven value addition and community empowerment.

This launch marks a major milestone in the University’s commitment to promoting applied research, industrial linkages and sustainable economic growth. The event will attract key government officials, development partners, entrepreneurs, farmers and the general public to witness the integration of academia with industry and innovation.

The Potato Value Chain is the cornerstone of KABBIC, designed to enhance productivity, processing and marketing of potato-based products in the Kigezi sub-region. The program focuses on:

  • Value Addition: Production of high-quality crisps, starch, flour and potato wine using modern processing equipment.
  • Job Creation: Creating over 1,500 direct and indirect jobs, especially for youth and women.
  • Research and Development: Collaborating with NARO, MAAIF, UIRI and other partners to improve seed quality and production efficiency.
  • Market Expansion: Strengthening trade networks under EAC, COMESA and AfCFTA frameworks.
  • Sustainability: Promoting climate-smart agriculture and green energy adoption to ensure long-term impact.

The launch program will feature engaging activities and speeches from distinguished guests, including:
