The Pathogen Economy Bureau at STI-OP will conduct an engagement with indigenous scientists (herbalists) in Kigezi region to profile, document and map natural therapeutics in the Kigezi region. The main activity of the engagement is to train indigenous scientists and link them to the central facilities of the Pathogeny Economy to support and standardise their products.

The activities will include training indigenous scientists in herbal, mineral, and other medicinal material harvesting and post-harvest handling; in vitro and in vivo training; and observational/community use evidence documentation, Intellectual Property Registration, and preliminary insights into clinical trials.
There will also be an exhibition to profile the work of the indigenous scientists, with the aim of adding value to their products, improving documentation, and linking them to our central facilities. This includes phytochemical testing at NCRI & DGAL, in vitro testing at UVRI, in vivo testing at CLARF-COVAB, clinical trials at COVAB, and ultimately GMP Manufacturing for standardization.
