RESPECT Workshop 1: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Human Rights

Kabale University will host RESPECT Workshop 1: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Human Rights, the first in a series of capacity-building activities under the Responsible Critical Thinking (RESPECT) project.

RESPECT is a collaborative initiative between Lund University (LU) in Sweden and Kabale University (KAB) in Uganda, designed to strengthen KAB’s capacity to establish and independently manage a postgraduate programme in Human Rights.

The project pays special attention to marginalized communities in East Africa, focusing on how their human rights can be protected through research-informed approaches. Funded by the Swedish Institute (2024–2026), RESPECT aligns with SDG 16, promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions through academic empowerment.

This workshop will build the research capacity of postgraduate students and academic staff by exposing them to international and Ugandan perspectives on human rights, interdisciplinary research methods, and peer-led scientific dialogue.

Workshop Focus Areas

Participants will engage in discussions and training sessions centered on:

  • Human rights and marginalized groups: International perspective
  • Human rights and marginalized groups: Ugandan perspective
  • Interdisciplinary research: Theory and practice
  • Tutored peer discussions on research ideas

These sessions will strengthen skills in research design, academic inquiry, and critical analysis, providing a strong foundation for postgraduate work within the RESPECT framework.
