Oversight visit by Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST)

The Uganda National Council for Science and Technology has informed us that they will be sending a delegation to Kabale University for a three-day visit during the period 5-7 August 2024.  The visit falls within the UNCST mandate, which includes, among others to “Promote the development of science professionals and professional institutions in Uganda”.
The visit, which is part of the UNCST capacity development programme, aims to mobilise and consolidate existing STI human capital (including the Social Sciences and Humanities) in Uganda in order to among others, optimize the brain gain and deployment of highly skilled professionals; increase their products and services; and strengthen science professional bodies that will in turn facilitate professionalism and productivity among STI professionals.
The objectives of UNCST team’s the visit are to:
  1. Engage key stakeholders, identify areas of synergy and share information that is relevant to the continuous professional development initiative.
  2. Assess the existing facilities, resources, and capabilities among respective institutions, with potential to support capacity building and homing of science professionals and CPD programs.
  3. Collaboratively plan for the respective stakeholders’ envisaged participation in the initiative.
In the next few days, the Directorate of Research and Grants will develop and share a draft programme and propose a list of activities for the visit.  This is an opportunity to engage with the UNCST delegation and showcase our capacity, our aspirations and the main gaps we need to fill to grow our research output.
This message is to inform you as early as possible about the visitors, so that you make plans to be available.
