Kabale University, through the Faculty of Science and the Department of Mathematics, will join the global community in celebrating the International Day of Mathematics (IDM) 2026, scheduled for 14th March 2026.
The International Day of Mathematics is a worldwide celebration led by the International Mathematical Union and was officially proclaimed by UNESCO in 2019. The annual event highlights the importance of mathematics in shaping innovation, solving real-world challenges, and inspiring young minds across the globe. The theme for the 2026 celebration is “Mathematics and Hope.”
At Kabale University, the celebration will bring together university staff, mathematics students, and secondary school mathematics teachers from across the Kigezi region to engage in knowledge exchange, inspiration, and collaboration aimed at strengthening mathematics education and appreciation within the region.
The event will feature a variety of engaging academic and interactive activities, including:
- Professional and inspirational talks delivered by distinguished speakers and students
- A poster session showcasing innovative mathematical ideas and real-world applications
- The official launch of the Kabale University Mathematics Enthusiasts, a new student-led club dedicated to promoting interest in mathematics
- Recognition of excellence and service in mathematics
- A consultative forum between Kabale University’s Department of Mathematics and secondary school mathematics teachers to discuss strategies for strengthening mathematics teaching and learning
Through this initiative, Kabale University continues to promote academic excellence, community engagement, and regional collaboration in science education. The celebration also aims to inspire students and teachers to appreciate the role of mathematics in addressing societal challenges and shaping future innovations.
