The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science at Kabale University, is excited to announce the Inaugural African Women in Algebra Workshop, taking place from July 1st to 6th, 2024. This historic event will gather female algebraists from 13 African countries, including Benin, Burundi, Cameroon, DRC, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. The opening ceremony on July 1st, 2024, will include members of the Kabale University community, political leaders from the Kigezi region, male algebraists from Rwanda and Uganda, as well as female mathematics students and teachers from secondary schools in the Kigezi Region.
The workshop aims to address the gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), with a particular focus on algebra. It will provide a supportive and collaborative research environment for African women. Participants will benefit from keynote presentations, research presentations, panel discussions, and collaborative research sessions designed to empower and inspire them.
This event is proudly supported by Kabale University, the Centre International De Mathématiques Pures Et Appliquées (CIMPA), the International Mathematical Union – Committee for Women in Mathematics (IMU – CWM), the International Mathematical Union – Commission for Developing Countries (IMU – CDC), the European Mathematical Society – Committee for Developing Countries (EMS-CDC), the International Science Programme at Uppsala University (ISP), the African Women in Mathematics Association (AWMA), the University of Vienna, the London Mathematical Society (LMS), and a generous donation from a female mathematician.
