Faculty of Law Research Seminar and Training

The Faculty of Law, Kabale University, is pleased to announce a Research Seminar and Training for faculty staff scheduled to take place on 19th March 2025. This important event is aimed at empowering academic staff to sharpen their research and publication skills, aligning with the University’s strategic objectives on research, innovation and academic excellence.

Guest Speaker: Dr. Daniel Ruhweza

We are honored to host Dr. Daniel Ruhweza, a renowned legal scholar, as the Guest Speaker and Facilitator. Dr. Ruhweza is a Senior Lecturer and the Acting Head of the Department of Law and Jurisprudence at the School of Law, Makerere University. He also serves as the Coordinator of the Master of Laws (LLM) in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa programme and is the Patron of the Moot Society at Makerere University School of Law.

Dr. Ruhweza is a Commissioner for Oaths and Notary Public, with extensive research interests covering:

  • International Criminal Law
  • Transitional Justice
  • International Law
  • Critical Approaches to Law and Development
  • Good Governance and Constitutionalism
  • Corruption Studies
  • Socio-economic Rights
  • Death Penalty Studies

As a prolific author, he has published numerous journal articles and working papers, including a widely read student guidebook titled “We Don’t Teach That at the University: Confessions of a University Don (2019)”.

In addition to his academic engagements, Dr. Ruhweza is a Rotarian and an active member of several prestigious professional bodies, including:

  • The Oxford and Cambridge Society of Uganda
  • East African Law Society
  • Uganda Law Society
  • The Doctoral Network Uganda
  • Uganda Christian Lawyers Fraternity (UCLF)
  • Makerere University Academic Staff Association

Purpose of the Seminar and Training

This research seminar and training is designed to equip law lecturers with practical research skills necessary for advancing scholarly work and contributing meaningfully to national and international legal discourse. It will address critical areas such as:

  • Enhancing individual research, publication, and innovation capabilities.
  • Supporting the realization of Kabale University’s research agenda.
  • Fostering a culture of research excellence within the Faculty of Law.
