The Directorate of Research and Grants (DRG), in collaboration with the Directorate of Graduate Training (DGT), is organizing a one-day sensitization and capacity-building workshop aimed at equipping academic and administrative staff with practical knowledge and skills in scholarly publishing. The workshop is designed to strengthen research capacity, improve publication output, and enhance the visibility and impact of research conducted at Kabale University. Participants will engage in interactive discussions and hands-on sessions covering key aspects of journal selection, manuscript preparation, publication processes, journal indexing, and strategies for maximizing research impact. The training will also address the growing challenge of predatory journals and provide guidance on identifying reputable and high-impact publication outlets.
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Identify appropriate journals for publishing their research based on scope, quality, audience, and relevance.
- Differentiate between reputable and predatory journals and publishers to make informed publication decisions.
- Understand journal indexing and ranking systems, including their significance in academic publishing and research visibility.
- Develop skills in manuscript preparation and submission, following accepted scholarly publishing standards.
- Explore strategies for improving publication success rates, including responding to reviewers and selecting suitable publication venues.
- Enhance the visibility and impact of research outputs through effective dissemination and indexing practices.
- Strengthen institutional research capacity and contribute to the University’s goal of increasing high-quality research publications and academic recognition.
