Launch of the RESPECT Project: Promoting Responsible Critical Thinking for the Human Rights of Marginalized Groups

The Responsible Critical Thinking (RESPECT) project is a collaborative initiative between Lund University (LU) in Sweden and Kabale University (KAB) in Uganda. The primary goal is to enhance KAB’s ability to establish and independently manage a postgraduate program in Human Rights. The project places a special focus on marginalized groups in East Africa, exploring how their human rights can be safeguarded through advanced research. RESPECT is supported by the Swedish Institute for the period 2024–2026.

In East Africa, the human rights of marginalized communities have often been overlooked, leading to widespread issues such as homelessness, lack of education, and social exclusion. Higher education plays a pivotal role in fostering sustainable development and societal progress. Through the RESPECT project, KAB aims to strengthen its capacity to become a leading force for positive societal change in the East African region. This initiative aligns with and contributes to the United Nations’ 16th Sustainable Development Goal, which advocates for democracy and social justice.

The RESPECT project will be officially launched on August 13, 2024, at Kabale University’s Main Campus, in the Postgraduate Boardroom, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
